On Wednesday April 29th, 2009, the CEIE 690 class entitled Environmental Sustainability and Entrepreneurship held a competition among six teams of students to develop a business plan for sustainable practices. The students were challenged to build a business idea that would best address the three elements of sustainability: social responsibility, economic viability and environmental protection. The top team was judged by a panel of sustainability representatives and advocates and received $5,000. The winning team Sun Synergy Systems Services (S4) was comprised of VIT&E students Richard Ross, Elena Rubalcava, and Ali Bakhshi. The winning concept combined vocational training for community youth and displaced veterans with design build photovoltaic services for residential and commercial applications.
